The ninth and final volume of Yūki Kodama's manga Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) went on sale on 26th this month. But don't get sad yet, the anime television series has just started to air.
The manga is a youth manga which has been serialized in the Monthly Flowers magazine since November, 2007. It is also the first Yūki Kodama manga that has more than one volume. The story was set in Kyushu in the late 1960s, where the traditional music has been much influenced by foreign cultures. The protagonist is a a boy named Kaoru Nishimi, who moves from Yokosuka to Kyushu due to his father's job situation. In the school, Kaoru meets a bad boy named Sentaro Kawabuchi who later introduces him to jazz music, and the two become good friends.
The anime debuted on Fuji TV this month and has received excellent reviews from the viewers. A side story of the manga is being serialized in the magazine. The first chapter follows the life of Junichi and Yurika in Tokyo.
