Hitoshi Iwaaki's historical manga Historie won the top award at the 16th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes last month in Tokyo. Historie tells the story of Eumenes, a secretary and general to Alexander the Great. It has been serialized by Kodansha in Afternoon since 2006 and the 7th volume was published in November 2011. The manga has also won the 14th Media Arts Awards 2010 Grand Prize in Manga Division.

A copy of Weekly Shonen Jump won Special Prize at the Prizes. After the Great Eastern Earthquake last year, many bookstores were temporarily closed in that area. A book store in Sendai was back in business three days later, and the owner let over 100 kids take turns reading one sole copy of that year's 16th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, which was donated by a male customer.

That very issue brought courage and comfort to children in that disaster-stricken area. The owner later donated the one million award money to charity.
